Curriculum
The curriculum will include the following disciplines:
- Physics provides a foundation for the application of simple models of phenomena to the more complex interactions that occur in chemical, biological, and earth systems sciences.
- Calculus is one of the greatest achievements of human intellect. Throughout each century since Newton and Leibniz, mathematicians and scientists have demonstrated the power of calculus to illuminate questions in mathematics, the physical sciences, engineering, and the social and biological sciences.
- American history, delineated by Tennessee curriculum standards, will provide students with an understanding and respect for the values enshrined in our founding documents. Student complete their first year with a clear sense of their rights and their core responsibilities as citizens.
- English and language arts enable young people to gain the knowledge and the skills that help them participate as knowledgeable, reflective, creative, and critical members of a variety of literacy communities. By reading great literature and developing their writing skills in a variety of styles, our students will have command the written and spoken language to use it clearly, strategically, critically and creatively.
- Humanities, beyond history and language arts, will be woven throughout the students’ days through a variety of field trips, seminars, shows and impromptu experiences.
- Academy students will study Chinese and learn a Martial Art.
- Through a service-learning component, students will work with Tennessee School for the Deaf youth to help improve their math and science achievement. TSD students – in return – will teach them American Sign Language.
