Welcome to Tennessee Governor's Academy

Breaking News: 1/13/10

Following a three-year pilot of TGA, a state-supported residential mathematics and science school, the Governor's Office and the State Department of Education have concluded that the program costs associated with a residential school are too great.  The State Department is instead exploring the development of regional-based day mathematics and science magnet high schools, much like models in Virginia, Florida, and Ohio.  TGA will remain open through May 2011 so the current junior class can continue their courses of study at the University of Tennessee and their internships at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, culminating in their May commencement.  However, TGA will not be accepting applications for any future students.

We are sorry for any inconvience this has caused for prospective students, their families, and their home schools.

Tennessee Governor's Academy

Established to educate students who are committed to their own education and have a passion for mathematics and science, the Tennessee Governor’s Academy for Mathematics and Science is the premier residential program in the state. Students at TGA recieve an educational experience that focuses on inquiry, investigation, and research.

The mission of TGA is to provide a challenging educational opportunity for students seeking to pursue studies in science and mathematics. Our goal is to increase the number of students in Tennessee pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by providing advanced coursework and research opportunities.

Students at the Academy were selected from across the state and are expected to be prepared to positively contribute to our demanding and dynamic learning community. Governor Phil Bredesen, in partnership with the University of Tennessee, is dedicated to creating the most interesting and challenging learning environment possible in order to create global citizens who will make contributions in STEM fields that will benefit not only the state of Tennessee, but also reach the world.
